Alex Tang
Dr Tang graduated from the School of Medicine, University of Malaya in 1988; and had his radiology training at the National University of Malaysia in 1995. He completed his fellowship in vascular & interventional radiology at the Hammersmith Hospital, Imperial College of Medicine, University of London, and Guy’s Hospital, London in 1998. He furthered his training in interventional neuroradiology at the Radcliff Infirmary, Oxford in 2000.
Dr Tang has been an active IR, both in clinical practice and academic activities. He was the past president of the Malaysian Society of Interventional Radiology 2018-2020, the past president of the APSCVIR 2008-2010, the council member of APSCVIR (2008-2022), the founding member of the Asia Pacific Society of Interventional Oncology, a board of director of the Asian Pacific Association in Image Guided Therapy in Oncology (APAITO) Society and a Cooperative member of the Asian Conference of Tumor Ablation (ACTA).
He also pioneered the establishment of VIR Center and Services in the Kuala Lumpur Hospital in 1998, and the VIR Center, Subang Jaya Medical Center in 2000. He is currently holding the position of senior consultant vascular & interventional radiologist at the Subang Jaya Medical Centre, Kuala Lumpur since 1999.
He had delivered more than 160 didactic lectures in many regional and international I congresses. He was the organizing chairs of numerous international interventional radiology conferences and teaching workshops with live case transmissions since 2002, among them were the 8thAPCCVIR 2008 and 6th APCIO2019.
He pioneered the establishment of the Multidisciplinary Oncology Symposium Malaysia (MOSM) in 2017, an international multidisciplinary congress with live transmissions. He also establishes the Masterclass in Interventional Radiology, a highly technical and comprehensive regional advance teaching workshop in interventional radiology for the young interventional radiologists. It has been one of the high-quality teaching courses favoured by the regional young IRs.
His major interests are interventional oncology, endovascular revascularisation, stroke salvages, and management of vascular malformations, etc.; apart from the routine VIR services and the high-end cross sectional diagnostic imaging services.
He was awarded the Gold Medallist Award 2020 by the APSVCIR, and the International Honorary Member 2021 by Chinese College of Interventionalists.
